Something to look forward to ....
Most of us need to look forward to smth, all the while....if u think back, surely this was not the case when u were young, say going to school....u 'd pretty satisfied with a "normal" day at school(though this might contain some inherent expectations!!)
But there were no symptoms of ennui!! As u grow older, ur need to have smth to look forward to kicks in! and so does boredom!!
One of the major contributors is, motivation - a real imp factor for anybody to do anth!! as u grow older, u r expected to be more responsible and 'think' abt ur future,'decide' what u want to do,and actually 'do' all that! and in comes the motivation factor -
nobody does anth, without seeing a purpose behind their action- it cud be materialistic, or an ephemeral li'l smth called happiness! So, u basically go in search of what u want! But then, what happens once u do acheive those 'targets'? simple, u find new ones!! its an age old truth that a man never ceases to 'desire ',then, what s the problem- just keep moving from one desire to another!!
In fact, thats what a majority of us are doing!! and mind u , we feel its necessary too!! but then, the most formidable enemy in the form ennui tries his hand here as well..... u get bored of chasing one dream after another! u get bored of meeting ur 'targets'! u get bored of the whole process!! but still, ur need for looking forward to smth has not reduced! Its just that, there s also an additional clause now, that whatever it is,must be new and fresh! simply put, u no longer look forward to things u used to,a while ago!
There s a solution to this as well...... u can either try n keep changing ur environment- say,by living like a nomad or u could choose to see evth(same old evth) in a new light, in a new meaning(who said it s the easier option!).And this, solves the problem of boredom by giving u smth to look forward to all the time, and more importantly gives immense joy, which is simply one of a kind!! so, the bottom line being- the only way to beat ennui is to constantly reinvent urself especially ur outlook!
William Blake puts this beautifully(one of my all time -fave lines) -
....to see the world in a grain of sand,
and heaven in a wild flower.....
to hold infinity in the palm of ur hand,
and eternity in an hour!!
(i just love this piece, and didnt like it one bit when it was used in the Tomb Raider movie! ;/ )
neways, to be honest, i wrote this blog to shake off boredom!!! :D in the first place, blogging itself was an attempt to reinvent... !
